This comprehensive project involved the hauling and placement of over **350,000 cubic metres** of fill across a 1-kilometre off-road haul route, the export of approximately **60,000 cubic metres** of topsoil, and the stockpiling of more than **150,000 cubic metres** of topsoil for future use. As part of the infrastructure improvements, Todd Brothers constructed new turning lanes along the MTO-owned Highway 35. This component of the project included traffic control, cut and fill operations, erosion control measures, and final landscaping to ensure safety and compliance with provincial standards. Additional work included the construction of a temporary river crossing, extensive erosion and sediment control implementation—including the development of multiple stormwater management ponds—and full site clearing and grubbing. Our scope included constructing foundations for five 200,000 gallon storage tanks and a containment liner systems under the new fuel storage tanks, we also installed a water capture system to manage stormwater and potential fuel spills. Todd Brothers installed a 2.2 km, 16” watermain network with 17 hydrants. 4.5m x 4.5m valve chambers and backflow preventers were also installed. Installing over 1200 lineal meters of concrete duct banks and transformer pads. Installed a storm water management system consisting of 24 MH’s and 5 CB’s and 1000’s meters of pipe, up to 1.5m in size. We have had some amazing highlights in 2022, including but not limited to the following: - Roughly 2.5 million meters of earth moved on site, and an additional 350,000 meters exported - We are very proud that our team had zero days lost to incidents or accidents at work - Our Snow team was awarded five extra trucks for our Kawartha Lakes Road Contract - Our total work volume increased by 10-15% over last year, which had also increased 10-15% from the year prior - We organized our recruiting efforts to have our first Hiring Event in early 2023 to support our growth - We had a great crew working of ladies + gentlemen with all-hands-on-deck for earth moving season, welcoming many talented new faces along the way, including three new office staff members and welcoming back Erin from her maternity leave - Our TB family grew by five new future operators from Tristan, Casey, Bobby, Richard & Tyler, and an honourable mention going to two new furry family members Tucker McKay and Rhonda Jessup - The Todds celebrated the weddings of not one but two of their children, our Vise-President Brayden and their daughter Christie in the summer of 2022 Overall, our 2022 season has been a fantastic reflection of our consistent growth over the past 40 years and heading into the next 40. Thankfully our highly skilled operators were able to work around the tight quarters with the large machines this project required. And with poor access, given the homes located on either side of the site, our sewer crew implemented trench boxes to give themselves safe working access for sewer and water connections. With this area having high-water tables it required constant dewatering.  Sub-excavation and clear stone bedding was required to accommodate the saturated soil conditions. As this is a residential area where families already reside, versus many of our earthworks projects in new developments, our team tried to work as quietly as possible to not disturb the residents. As well as being extra cognizant of extra safety concerns as children live and play nearby.  For our Sewer Crew this was a full circle job since they were able to see the entirety of the project from start to finish. So often our crews only get to see a single piece of the puzzle and never experience seeing the result of the finished product before moving on to the next site. On paving day it was important to Ross to have the same crew see the finished product with it’s shiny new asphalt be able to say “we did that”. There were countless downed trees blocking roads, driveways, and causing concern for the community’s overall safety. The Todd Brothers team jumped into action by removing trees however way possible.   Ross and family jumped in heavy haulers and equipment to clear road ways the next day. In the following weeks Team TB worked daily to clear trees and haul them away especially the hard-hit lake areas where large trees had come down in a very populated residential area. This 300th piece of equipment went to one of our amazing Foremen Richard, and seems fitting seeing as one of Ross’ first purchases was a 1980 Jeep Pickup he used as a work truck when he began Todd Brothers Contracting in 1980. Ross is steadfast in his method of building a successful business: don’t accrue debt, and work with great people (crediting his wonderful wife Cindy and talented employees both past and present). These pieces of equipment are always formally welcomed into the TB family, as Ross makes it a point to drop by the Todd family home with any new equipment to take a signature photo in front of wherever he was living at the time. Some may find this odd (particularly his neighbours) but after many years of this ritual, this is surely nothing new to them. All in all, Ross has built this business and accumulated all 300 pieces of equipment over years of trial and error (ask Cindy about the 3-in-1 Septic truck). But has now finetuned Todd Brother’s offerings, specializing in the world of Heavy Equipment: focusing on Earthworks, Sewer & Watermain, Demolition, and Bridge/Road Construction. With a solid foundation to build on, plus the Todd family at the helm, growth and expansion are inevitable. This project tapped all areas of Todd Brothers’ resources, demanding unique equipment and experienced personnel. A special 65 foot, long reach excavator was purchased to handle deep excavation work and locks were installed on all truck bodies enabling haulage of the tunnel muck material, that is extremely wet, in a safe manor. This project is highly scrutinized and requires flawless professional service. The generated earth is being placed at a site being managed by the Toronto Region Conservation Authority. Todd Brothers is responsible for all activity in the fill site. Strict environmental and procedural protocol must be adhered to at all times. This is not the first time Mr. Todd has helped out the troops. Earlier this year, Mr. Todd, bid and won, a day with the armed forces tank cavalry in Edmonton. “It was very interesting,” he said, noting how confining the tank was. “You barely fit inside.” Thanks to Mr. Todd’s donation, Whitchurch-Stouffville’s Koffee in Kandahar program has raised more than $7,000 for the 2,500 Canadian serving in Afghanistan. Koffee in Kandahar is collecting gift certificates from the donut chain, as well as cash. There is a Tim Hortons at the Canadian base serving up the famous Canadian treats. “What we are witnessing is patriotism,” Loretta Lavell, who, with the help of others launched the Koffee in Kandahar campaign last month, said. “The generosity of people in this very difficult financial climate is truly amazing. I firmly believe that Canadians are expressing patriotism like never before; it’s palpable and I am so incredibly proud to say that I am Canadian.” ---
